test questions

Today class started when I got to school. WE had a bomb threat today and first period was mostly an evacuation time for the police to search the school again with the dogs. We were supposed to have a test today but i guess because we had shorten classes because of the powder puff game at the end of the day he decided to postpone it until Friday. Mr. Schick asked us if we had questions to put on the test that we are having on Friday. Then we started asking him questions about the test. Since the classes were shorter , time went by really fast and class ended. That is what we did today in Human Geography.

How Can We Help?

Today in class we were in small groups. We were looking for what we could do to help kids in Africa that don't have a lot of money to buy things. One thing we found that helps was the shoe company called TOMS.  They have a program as when you buy a shoe they give one away to a child in need . that is a good program because lots of kids that are poor cant afford shoes and that is a good way of helping our world out today.

Did you know?

Today in class we watched a video on YouTube called "Did you know? " The video was about all the recent facts in the world today. Like one of the facts was that if Facebook was a country it would be the third largest country. And another fact was that China will soon be the number one country to speak English. Other then watching the video we talked about how Facebook can help us people out. Like some people said their sports teams have Facebook groups which the players and coaches join. That is an easy way to notify the players when practice is. The football team has a Facebook group also and i find it very convenient. And another thing some classmates said was that they use it to find out what homework was that day. I find that good and bad, the good thing is if you do actually forget to write it down you could chat someone in your class and they could easily tell you what the homework is. But the bad thing is that you could easily get distracted from focusing on your homework. which could cause problems with grades in the future. Well that is what we did today in Human geography class.

Real or Fake?

The first website that i clicked on seems legit. And same with the second one they are both well known resources. But for the third website, it was just typed out. it was very plain and nothing on the site looked legit. For the 4th website through the last website we had to choose were also very legit. NASA which was the 4th one was of course legit because it was the actually site they use. And CNN which was the 5th website was also legit because that is an actually news station that reports information through out the country. The 6th website which was The New York Times and the 7th website which was Fox News. they both are legit because they are both websites that give out information for us people. Wikipedia which is the 8th website is defiantly legit because it is one of the worlds largest encyclopedias. And last the 9th website which is your blog is also legit because we use it everyday adn it gives us the information we need for class.

Wikipedia yo.

Today in human geography we learned about what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is the worlds biggest encyclopedia and on it you can pretty much find anything you would want to know. Mr Schick also taught us about how to know if a website is correct and if you would want to get info off of it or not. Also when you look up a topic on Wikipedia it gives you a picture of what you looked up. And it also gives you a list of links that relate to the topic. Another thing he showed us was how to add links that are important to our blog. that will help us a lot because if he adds a link to his blog then we will know how to add it to our blog so we could possibly use it for homework.

Essay # 3

Well freshman year I am going to try and get used to how the school is run and the grading system since it was different then my old school. And I am also going to try and not get in as much trouble as I have been in the past. My sophomore year I might try to get into some AP classes that I excelled in during my freshman year. My junior year I plan to take more AP classes and hopefully become a better math student because I really am not that good at math. And finally my senior year I plan to do the best I can and work my hardest to get my credits so I can graduate. That is my plan for all four of my years at The John Carroll School.

Essay # 2

I think that Elbert Hubbard and Socrates would think that the Americans these days are lazy. And I also think that they would say that they don’t act civilized like the Greeks of their time. That is what I think Socrates and Elbert Hubbard would think if they came back during the year 2012.

Essay # 1

My definition of ArĂȘte is excelling in something great. Socrates and the Ancient Greeks used this because they developed the first democracy which further expanded to how we run our government today. That was also excellence because there were other people before the Greeks and they were the first to think of the idea to have a civilized city polis. That is what I think it means and how they used excellence during the Ancient Greek times

What Happened in Class Today?

Today in Human geography class we first took roll to see if everyone was there. Then he started reading to use this book called "A message to Garcia" . It was about this guy who had to send a message to a Spanish army general during the Spanish American war in Cuba. In the book it was saying how some people don't listen to others and they just do what they want. And the other thing was that some people actually do what people ask you to do. Like the guy in the book that sent the message to the general , as soon as they asked him to do do it he took the message and left. I think Mr. Schick read this to us to show us how some people are today and to teach us a life lesson. That is what i think the story is trying to show us.

arĂȘte- excellence

polis- ancient greek city state

Socrates- anthenian philosopher

The death of socrates-  died drinking hemlock

the socratic method - a form of inquiry and debate between individuals with opposing viewpoints

508 bc - beginning of republican period

Agora - chief marketplace of Athens, center of city

What ancient greeks meant if they called you an idiot- in ancient Greek it means civilian

Was my first day at John Carroll good?

My Second day at John Carroll

My second day at John Carroll was alright. It was a little weird transitioning from public to private school but i guess that takes awhile to get used to. But other then that I had a great day, Class started with him seeing who is here and that's when class started getting good because that is when he found out everybody's nicknames. Then after that he started going over the class rules and reading over what he expected in us students in his class. When he was done all this he showed us what to do tonight for homework and explained how to use the blog to the students that didn't understand how. Oh and i forgot we got our seats and of course I am in the front of the class like i always am. Well that is how my first day went of Human geography i cant wait to see what the rest of the year is like.

My First day at John Carroll

My first day was very fun and full of excitement. It was also a new experience for me since this year is my first time going to a private school. My day first stared in the auditorium where they went over how the school year is gonna be and what is going to be happening this school year. Then after that we went to meet at our advisory and to get our locker. that part was hard for me because the locker weren't like the lockers at my old school. After we got our lockers we had a fire drill and then they gave us snacks. then the rest of the day I had all my regular classes like math, science, intro to bible, english and of course the most interesting class human geography. Well my first day came to an end and i had a really good time at John Carroll. I can't wait until the school year actually starts!
