Papua New Guinea

Today in class we learned about Papua New Guinea. They have an unemployment rate of 1.9% compared to the US which is 7.7% . They are the 12th fastest growing economy. Number one religion is Roman Catholic. There are 542 unpaved run ways and 20 paved run ways. They have an army and an Air Force. The legal age to get drafted is 16. And they have a potential 3 million soldiers if they ever went to war. 2.4 million cell phones are being used. 13% of the people live in urban areas. 3 main sports in the country are soccer, cricket, and rugby. Internet host 5,006 and Internet users are 125,000. 57.3 % are literate in Papua New Guinea and 42.7% are illiterate. Over 800 Languages are spoken . There are this any because of all the tribes there are in this country.

Jared Diamond

Jared Diamond was born in Boston Massachusetts on September 10th, 1937. He is a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is also an author of many books. He studies in the fields of anthropology , geography , and another one that I forget . He has a PhD in Geography and Philosophy . He has gone on numerous expeditions. One of them including Papua , New Guinea . One if his books he wrote was Guns, Germs, and Steel. That was one of his books that was made into a movie. It was written by Jared Diamond in 1997. It was rewarded the pulitzer prize , which is the highest award given to an author.
